Apprentice Plumber to join the Works team

As a site-based apprentice, you will learn both on the job and through a local college training provider. The formal qualification will be over a 3-year period on a day release basis, completing an SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Plumbing. A further year will be spent working alongside our Foreman Plumber allowing you to hone your skills and gain invaluable experience.

ROLE SUMMARY

Now is an exciting time to be at Roxburghe Estates as we continue our transition into the next
Ducal generation and seek new and exciting opportunities, particularly across our built
environment, which will shape and sustain this thriving and historic rural business.

With a large built environment portfolio, property maintenance and improvement works are an
important aspect of the Estate’s day to day operations. Here at Roxburghe Estates, we feel it is
important for us and our local community, to be able to grow our own talent for now and the
generations to come, hence our commitment to apprenticeships.
As an apprentice you will work alongside our Foreman Plumber to gain invaluable practical
experience whilst completing a modern apprenticeship at Borders College.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As a site-based apprentice, you will learn both on the job and through a local college training
provider. The formal qualification will be over a 3-year period on a day release basis, completing
an SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Plumbing. A further year will be spent working
alongside our Foreman Plumber allowing you to hone your skills and gain invaluable experience.

As an adaptable individual you will work in a variety of situations across the Estate. You will work
across our entire built environment which includes our heritage assets such as Floors Castle, our
policy grounds, farms and private rented properties. Whilst working you will learn and gain
experience in:

• Domestic and commercial hot and cold-water supply, storage and distribution.
• Private water supplies.
• Above ground drainage.
• Oil, solid fuel and biomass heating systems.
• Leadwork.
• Workplace health and safety.
• Use of hand and power tools.

HOURS OF WORK

Flexibility is important, but a base working week would be 39 hours comprising:
Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:30 and Friday 08:00-15:30

ABOUT YOU – Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is:

ABOUT YOU – Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• You will have a minimum of 4 standard grades at general level or national 4 or 5 (or
equivalent) in relevant subjects.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• You should be comfortable working at height.
• You should be comfortable working as part of a team.
